Press Release

3DM Inc. to Keynote at Dow Jones / Wall Street Journal / VentureWire Healthcare Innovations Conference, Demonstrating the Power of Biomaterial Scaffolds in Regenerative Medicine Healthcare Ventures

Cambridge , Mass. – 31 July, 2006 – 3DM Inc. President, Zen Chu, has been invited to present at Dow Jones annual Healthcare Innovations Conference. Mr. Chu will present a company keynote entitled "Accelerating Regenerative Medicine Through Nanofiber Biomaterials." The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring 3DM among a distinguished panel of entrepreneurs, scientists and venture capital investors. The conference will take place on September 12 & 13, 2006 at the Hotel Sofitel San Francisco Bay in Redwood City, California.

"The editors of VentureWire and Dow Jones publications invited 3DM to exemplify how next generation biomaterials are enabling regenerative medicine and new minimally-invasive surgical interventions," said Shuguang Zhang, MIT professor and inventor of the company's technology. "3DM's nanobiomaterials repesent a family of synthetic materials which offer superior functionality and biocompatibility due to their biomimetic design and engineering."

Mr. Chu's presentation will also cite recent peer-reviewed research demonstrating 3DM's technologies in the following areas:

Cardiac Regeneration: Hsieh PC, Davis ME, Gannon J, MacGillivray C, Lee RT. Controlled delivery of PDGF-BB for myocardial protection using injectable self-assembling peptide nanofibers. J Clin Invest. 116(1):237-48 (2006).

Angiogenesis & Cardiac Tissue Engineering: Narmoneva, D., Oni, O., Sieminski, AL, Zhang, S., Gertler, JP, Kamm, RD, Lee, RT Self-assembling short oligopeptides and the promotion of Angiogenesis. Biomaterials 26: 4837–4846 (2005).

Stem Cells for Cartilage Tissue Engineering: Mauck RL, Helm JM, Tuan RS.  Enhanced Chondrogenesis and Development of Mechanical Properties of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells Seeded in a Self-Assembling Peptide Hydrogel.  Summer Bioengineering Conference, Vail, CO. (2005).

CNS Regeneration: Ellis-Behnke RG, Liang YX, You SW, Tay DK, Zhang S, So KF, Schneider GE. Nano neuro knitting: peptide nanofiber scaffold for brain repair and axon regeneration with functional return of vision. PNAS 103(13):5054-9 (2006).

About PuraMatrix
PuraMatrix Synthetic Peptide Hydrogels are the best-selling synthetic scaffolds for cell culture and bioproduction research, and have won numerous scientific awards. PuraMatrix gels consist of smart polymers, self-assembling upon injection in vivo to create biocompatible nanofiber scaffolds and facilitate tissue regeneration. PuraMatrix is currently in pre-clinical testing for orthopedics, cardiac and other medical device and drug delivery applications. PuraMatrix is used by most of the leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic laboratories and has been featured in over thirty premier scientific journal publications. R&D Magazine recently awarded PuraMatrix its 42nd annual R&D 100 Prize as one of the most significant new products to impact life science and medical research.

About 3DM Inc.
3DM is a privately-held specialty biomaterials and medical device company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a mission of developing novel medical therapies through its family of synthetic  nano-scale scaffolds for accelerating wound healing and tissue regeneration. 3DM’s materials provide a critical bridge in wound healing and tissue regeneration –a resorbable injectable scaffold to accelerate ingrowth of normal local tissue.  3DM is developing their self-assembling peptide hydrogels as medical devices in orthopedics, cardiovascular therapies and drug delivery applications. The patented technology, exclusively licensed from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was pioneered at MIT through the work and expertise of Drs. Shuguang Zhang, Alan Grodzinsky, Robert Langer, Alexander Rich, Carlos Semino and Lisa Spirio.
